Specialized Camps in Ontario

In Ontario, there are some incredible camps that cater to children with complex disabilities, providing them with unique experiences and opportunities for growth. One such partnership that stands out is between GoodOnU.ca and FLASH camp, where they collaborated to create AAC t-shirts this year. These t-shirts serve as a reminder for people to be patient and allow individuals using augmentative communication devices to express themselves and actively participate in conversations.

What is FLASH Camp?

FLASH camp takes place on the picturesque shores of Lake Huron every May, attracting families with children who have RETT syndrome. The camp focuses on enhancing literacy and AAC skills through engaging activities and games, creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all family members.

What is HUG Camp?

Located in Minden, Ontario, HUG camp is held at the Kinark Outdoor Centre every August. This camp is specifically designed to provide a nurturing and uplifting experience for families and their loved ones with disabilities. The goal of HUG camp is to offer support, guidance, and a sense of community to all attendees, fostering a sense of belonging and empowerment.

These specialized camps in Ontario play a crucial role in providing children with disabilities the opportunity to explore new activities, develop essential skills, and form lasting connections with others who understand their unique challenges. By participating in these camps, individuals and their families can build confidence, independence, and a sense of belonging that extends beyond the camp experience.
